Restaurant POS software in Pakistan: the complete buyer's guide

Restaurants4 min read

A restaurant POS is the system your counter, waiters and kitchen all work from. Pick the right one and orders move faster, stock stops disappearing and you can see every branch from your phone. Pick the wrong one and you pay for it every single day. This guide covers what to look for, written for how restaurants in Pakistan actually run.

In this guide
  1. What a restaurant POS actually does
  2. The features that matter most
  3. Questions to ask before you buy

What a restaurant POS actually does

POS stands for point of sale. In a restaurant it is much more than a billing screen. A good restaurant POS takes the order, sends it to the kitchen, tracks the table or the rider, takes payment, deducts stock and adds the sale to your reports. All of that from one tap at the counter.

Most restaurants in Pakistan start with a basic billing program or a register book. That works until you add delivery, a second cashier or a second branch. Then the gaps show up as missing cash, missing chicken and orders the kitchen never saw.

The features that matter most

1. Every order type on one till

Walk-in, takeaway, delivery and dine-in should all start from the same screen with one tap. The bill, the kitchen ticket and your reports should all know which kind of order it was. If your system treats delivery as an afterthought, your staff will keep a second notebook for it.

2. Kitchen tickets or a kitchen screen

Every item should reach the right station on its own: the grill gets the tikka, the tandoor gets the naan. That can be a printed kitchen order ticket (KOT) or a kitchen display screen (KDS) where cooks mark orders done. Lost parchis are one of the most common reasons customers wait 40 minutes.

3. Foodpanda and online orders in the same queue

If Foodpanda orders arrive on a separate tablet and someone types them into the POS, you will get mistakes and missed orders at peak time. Look for a POS where Foodpanda orders drop straight into the system and the kitchen, and your own online orders do the same.

4. Works offline

Load-shedding and internet cuts are part of life. Your POS must keep billing and printing when the connection drops, then sync when it is back. A cloud-only system that freezes the counter will cost you the queue. We wrote a full guide on why your POS must work offline.

5. Recipes that deduct stock

When you sell a karahi, the system should deduct the chicken, oil, tomatoes and spices that went into it. That is the only way to see real profit per dish and catch stock that walks out the back door. More on this in our guide to restaurant inventory and recipe costing.

6. Shift closing and cash control

Each register should open with a starting cash amount and close with a statement of what it should hold: cash, card, JazzCash, Easypaisa and bank transfer. An X report lets you check sales mid-shift without closing it. If the drawer is short, you know which shift and which cashier.

7. Staff permissions and a manager PIN

Discounts, voids and refunds are where money quietly leaks. Set how much each person can discount, require a manager PIN for large discounts and voids, and keep a log of who did what.

8. Tables, waiters and delivery riders

For dine-in, you want a live table map and waiters taking orders on Android phones. For delivery, you want delivery zones with their own fees, riders assigned to each order and a count of how much cash each rider handled.

9. Reports you can read on your phone

What sold, when, by whom and at what profit, for every branch. You should be able to check today's sales from home without calling the manager.

Questions to ask before you buy

  1. Does it keep billing and printing with no internet?
  2. Can Foodpanda and online orders come in without retyping?
  3. Can I run more than one branch from one account, with branch prices?
  4. Do recipes deduct stock automatically?
  5. Can I control what each staff member can see and discount?
  6. Will you load my menu and train my staff, or do I do it myself?
  7. Is support local, and in which cities?
  8. Can I see sales from my phone?

Mistakes restaurants make when choosing a POS

  • Buying on price alone. A cheap system that loses a few orders a day costs more within months.
  • Ignoring offline mode until the first big load-shedding night.
  • Skipping recipes and stock because setup feels like work. That is where the profit is.
  • No training. If cashiers do not trust the system, they go back to the notebook.
  • Picking a system built for another country that does not understand dhabas, karahi houses, JazzCash or local delivery.

How switching works

Switching should take days, not months. With RestaurantOS we load your menu, recipes, tables and staff before go-live, train your team on site and stay until they are comfortable. Send the menu in any format, even a photo of the printed one.

RestaurantOS runs fast food outlets, cafés, dine-in restaurants, dhabas, BBQ and karahi houses and multi-branch chains. FBR integration is available if your business needs it.

Common questions

What is the best restaurant POS in Pakistan?

The best one is the one that fits how you serve. Look for all four order types on one till, kitchen tickets by station, Foodpanda orders coming in directly, offline billing, recipe based stock and shift closing. Book a demo with your own menu before you decide.

Does a restaurant POS work without internet?

A good one does. RestaurantOS keeps billing and printing offline on Windows and Android, and syncs when the internet is back.

Can waiters take orders on their phones?

Yes. Waiters log in on the Android app, take orders at the table and send them straight to the kitchen.

How long does it take to set up?

Most restaurants go live within days. We load your menu, recipes and staff before go-live and train your team on site.
