Pharmacy software in Pakistan: how to choose one that tracks every batch and expiry

Pharmacy2 min read

A pharmacy is a shop with much higher stakes. Selling an expired batch, running out of a common medicine or losing track of a supplier balance costs money and trust. General retail software is not built for this. Here is what pharmacy software needs to do.

In this guide
  1. Search by brand, generic or salt name
  2. Batch and expiry on every unit
  3. Expiry and low stock alerts
  4. Prescriptions and patient history
  5. Suppliers and purchases
  6. Offline billing and multiple branches
  7. Checklist

Search by brand, generic or salt name

Customers ask for a brand; prescriptions often list the generic. Your counter should find a medicine by brand, generic or salt name, or by scanning its barcode, and show what alternatives you have in stock.

Batch and expiry on every unit

Every delivery should be entered with its batch number and expiry date. The software should sell the oldest batch first and list what expires this month, so you can return or discount it before it becomes waste.

Expiry and low stock alerts

Two lists every morning: what expires soon, and what is running low. That is most of stock control for a pharmacy.

Prescriptions and patient history

Attach prescriptions to sales, keep a record of who prescribed what, and find a patient's repeat medicines by phone number. Regular patients appreciate not having to explain their medicines every month.

Suppliers and purchases

Purchase orders, deliveries and supplier balances, matched against what actually arrives. Panel and insurance sales should be tracked separately so claims can be prepared without spreadsheets.

Offline billing and multiple branches

The counter must keep selling through load-shedding. For chains, each branch runs on its own while you see stock and sales for all of them on one dashboard.
