Billing software for shops in Pakistan: a guide for retail, grocery and gift stores

Retail2 min read

Whether you run a grocery store, a clothing shop, an electronics store or a gift shop, your billing software decides two things: how fast the queue moves, and whether your stock numbers can be trusted. Here is what to look for.

In this guide
  1. Fast barcode billing
  2. Stock that updates as you sell
  3. Loyalty that adds itself
  4. Every payment method
  5. Offline mode
  6. Staff roles
  7. What different shops need
  8. If you also sell online
  9. Questions to ask before you buy

Fast barcode billing

Scan, sell and print a receipt in seconds. The cashier should be able to scan existing barcodes, search by name and apply a discount without leaving the screen. For products without a barcode, the software should create and print your own labels.

Stock that updates as you sell

Every sale should deduct stock immediately. With more than one branch, each branch should keep its own stock while you see the total on one dashboard. Transfers between branches should be recorded, not done on WhatsApp.

Low stock alerts tell you before a best seller runs out. Slow mover reports tell you which stock is tying up your cash.

Loyalty that adds itself

Customers in Pakistan are used to giving their phone number at the till. Your billing software should find them by number, show their history and add loyalty points automatically. It is the cheapest way to bring a customer back.

Every payment method

Cash, card, JazzCash, Easypaisa and Raast should all be on one screen, with each recorded separately so your closing figures match the bank.

Offline mode

When the internet drops, the till must keep selling. Sales and stock sync the moment you reconnect. Read why offline matters.

Staff roles

Give cashiers, managers and owners the access they need and nothing more. Cashiers sell; managers approve refunds and price changes; owners see profit.

What different shops need

Shop typeMust have
Grocery and supermarketFast barcode scanning, weighed items, low stock alerts
Clothing and footwearSizes and colours, labels, exchanges
ElectronicsSerial numbers, warranties, supplier records
Cosmetics and beautyLoyalty, expiry dates, best seller reports
Gift storesLabels for unbarcoded items, seasonal stock, loyalty
Multi-branch chainsStock by branch, transfers, one dashboard

If you also sell online

Many shops now sell on Instagram, WhatsApp, Daraz or their own website. If online and in-store stock are counted separately, you will sell items you do not have. OMS can share stock with RetailOS, so both draw from the same count. See our guide to managing online orders in one place.

Questions to ask before you buy

  1. Can you import my product list from a spreadsheet?
  2. How does stock work across branches?
  3. What happens when the internet goes down?
  4. Can I see sales and stock on my phone?

RetailOS covers all four. Tax is calculated on every line, and FBR integration is available if you need it. Book a demo and we load your own products so you see exactly how it works.

Common questions

What is the best billing software for a small shop?

One that is fast at the till, updates stock with every sale, works offline and lets you see sales on your phone. Ask for a demo with your own products before you decide.

Can billing software handle more than one branch?

RetailOS can. Each branch has its own stock, and you see every branch on one dashboard.
